This stroll is easy to access the start which is adjacent to Platform 10, Roma Street Railway Station, Parkland Crescent (departure of ‘Spirit of Queensland’ train) and we follow the railway tracks as close as possible to Wooloowin Station.
The stroll will visit 4 Railway Stations along streets in the CBD, adjacent to Spring Hill, Fortitude Valley, Albion and Wooloowin. We will view places of early Brisbane settlement including parks, narrow streets, workers cottages, private schools/public schools adjacent to the northern rail line. The new Fortitude Valley State Secondary College opened in 2020 with 137 year 7 students. This is the first school to be opened in Inner City Business in over 50 years. The school is moving towards an enrolment of 1,500.
After leaving Roma Street Station, the stroll proceeds adjacent to Wickham Park and past Brisbane CBD adjacent to the northern rail line onto Fortitude Valley and beyond to Breakfast Creek to Albion and Wooloowin. We may even get to view the new railway bridge over Breakfast Creek just completed but not yet functional until Cross River Rail.
As we proceed under the Inner-City By-Pass (ICB) at Mayne Junction, we approach Windsor Park Sporting Fields, not far from the Albion overpass constructed in the 1960’s. The strollers will then walk adjacent to railway line from Albion Railway Station to the end of the stroll at the Wooloowin Railway Station.
This stroll covers the Roma Street, Valley, Albion and Wooloowin rail stations. It should take about two and a half hours. At the end, it is possible to catch a train from Wooloowin station to the beginning of the stroll. Please bring my phone number and a torch with you.
Come with me on this stroll and visit places where I resided in earlier years at Wooloowin and Albion/Windsor.
